No amount of thinking can solve the missing gate. The real story is that a small place still has not been seen properly. A circle of thirty metres on a south-facing slope in Soran, Longford, with a five-metre bank and a ditch outside it, is not a trivial shape. It is a room built by human hands, large enough to hold a house, a yard and a decision about who may enter. The entrance has disappeared under scrub and field boundaries, but the chamber is still there. That is why it is beautiful. It withholds one fact and gives back a whole world.

On a S-facing slope. A raised circular area (diam. c. 30m) enclosed by a bank of earth and stone (Wth c. 5-5.5m; H 0.3-0.9m) with an external fosse, both of which have been modified and incorporated into a field boundary.
