No fairy fort in Sleveen, County Kilkenny. That is a fabricated claim. The facts describe an earthen ringfort on a ridge between the Deen and Gloshia river valleys, visible in 1987 and likely levelled by 2011. It was a human defensive or domestic enclosure, not a mythical one. The name “fairy fort” is local tradition, not literal truth. The place mattered because it shaped the landscape and survived long enough to be measured before disappearing under pasture or plough.

On the crest of a ridge of hills between the Deen and Gloshia river valleys, in rolling pasture. There are fine views in all directions across and along both valleys and along the ridge of hills. When visited in 1987 it was described as a circular area (int. diam. c. 25m) enclosed by slight earthen bank (overall Wth c. 3m; int. H c. 0.4m; ext. H 1.2m) and an external fosse (Wth c. 5m; D 0.1-0.2m), the latter only indicated by a shallow depression, with an original entrance (Wth c. 2m) at the SE. On the 1947 6-inch OS revision and 25-inch OS map it is indicated as a roughly circular enclosure (diam. c. 35m) with an outer bank running from S-W-NW.
