Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Shanvogh

Fairy fort / earthen ringfort

What is recorded here

Mortons and Fairies both want the same things: a border, a room, a share of the night. The oval bank in Shanvogh gives those things back to people. Hazel grows through its stone-strewn edge, and the land around it stays gently uneven, as if remembering the shape of a hand that refused to let go.
Situated on a gently undulating karst landscape. An oval area (21.6m E-W; 15.4m N-S) defined by a stone-strewn earthen bank (Wth 4.7m at N to 7m at E; int. H 0.4-0.8m; ext. H 0.4-0.9m) which supports a dense growth of hazel. There is no visible fosse or entrance. Compiled by: Michael Moore Date of upload: 25 April 2017
