Fairy fort in Shangarry, County Limerick: a level dry ring, thirty-two metres across, marked only by a shallow scarped edge. It sits in open pasture on a slight north-facing slope, without wall, gate or roof, yet its shape remains exact. People may have lived there before becoming a fairy name, or the fairy name may have protected the human shape from forgetting. Either way, the ring still holds its measure in ordinary earth.

In pasture, on slight N-facing slope. Circular area (32.2m N-S; 31.9m E-W) defined by a scarped edge (H 0.6m; Wth 2.1m). Field boundaries, which formerly abutted enclosure at NW, E and SW, have been removed. Interior is level, dry and clear of overgrowth. Compiled by: Denis Power Date of upload: 26 August 2011
