What is recorded here

Fairy forts are not fairy forts. They are human rings, often old, often farmed flat, often misremembered. In Rusheen one such ring stood in J. O'Connor's land, about thirty-four yards across, with a single rampart and no inner chamber mentioned. It may have been a farmhouse, a boundary marker, a seasonal camp, or a small defence. The fairy name came later, when people stopped knowing the human purpose and gave the shape to something brighter.
