What is recorded here

No visible fort remains at Rossline because ploughing and time erased the rampart. The earth may have worn a circle for centuries before people stopped seeing it as a boundary. What is left is a flat field where the shape still repeats itself in memory.

In pasture, on gentle NE-facing slope. Depicted as hachured circular enclosure on 1842 OS 6-inch map. Levelled; circular area (diam. c. 30m) enclosed by low rise (int. H 0.1m; ext. H 0.3m) SW->ESE; remainder of site to S of E-W field fence, where no visible surface trace survives. One of two sites described by Bowman (1934, 185-186), on land of Mr Foley, as levelled single-ramparted forts with diam. of 29yd and 35yd. Ringfort (CO023-01002-) lies c. 25m to E.
