Fairy fort / earthen ringfort

What is recorded here

Fairy fort in Rathsaran Glebe, County Laois: a 38.5m circular enclosure with a 3.2m earthen bank, internal height 0.9m, external height 2.1m, and a 4.7m outside fosse. No entrance remains visible. The shape is clear even when the history is not, as if the land kept a room but withheld the door.
In undulating countryside. A circular area (diam. c. 38.5m) defined by an earthen bank (Wth c. 3.2m, int. H c. 0.9m, ext. H c. 2.1m) and external fosse (Wth c. 4.7m). No visible evidence of original entrance. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Laois' (Dublin Stationery Office, 1995) compiled by P. David Sweetman, Olive Alcock and Bernie Moran. In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload: 17 December 2007
