Three ramparts circled Rathnee, a fort large enough to hold a small kingdom or a thousand secrets. Men built it, lived there, and left it to the rain. Farmers later flattened the rings into pasture, believing strength must be useful or it does not exist. The land kept the shape anyway, drawing lines through crop and shadow while people forgot the names of those who first stood inside.

A fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Rathnee is an early-medieval circular earthwork, likely dating to between the 5th and 10th centuries, characterized by multiple ditches and banks. Local folklore associates such sites with the supernatural, often believed to be dwellings of the fairies or ancient royal settlements.
