What is recorded here

Thirty metres across and half buried under a modern track, the Rathmorrel fort still throws a low ridge into the Kerry sky. A narrow SW ridge and two hidden mounds suggest rooms or shelters within the circle, though no entrance survives to mark where people entered. The fort has been levelled twice, mapped twice and forgotten once, yet its bank rises eight hundred millimetres above the grass like a breath held under soil.

Internal diameter 30.6m N-S Situated NE of the previous three sites, this circular enclosure is marked on the 1842 and 1916 OS maps. Today this site has been much levelled and is cut by a track running N-S. Elsewhere it appears as a semi-circular raised area which rises to .8m above the surrounding land. To the N to NW a slight trace of an exterior fosse can be seen; it is 12m long, 2.4m wide and .4m deep. Contained in the N sector of the interior are two depressions and there is also a mound (KE014-033001-), 2.4m x 3m. Extending out of the depression is a narrow ridge which travels SW for 9m. In the S sector is a clump of stones, and c2m to the SW is an oblong mound (KE014-033001-), 6m x 2.6m, curving into the bank. No entrance is to be noted. The above description is derived from C.
