Rathealy holds a thirty-metre earthen ring on the valley floor, where a stream cuts past its north-east quadrant and waterlogged pasture surrounds the ancient banks. People built dual entrances at east and north-west, likely to move through the damp ground without dragging mud into the living space. The fairies never appeared in the facts, but they occupy the local name because humans often label unknown forces with fairy when the shape resists ordinary explanation.

On the floor of a small N-S river valley, with the stream running NW-SE past the NE quadrant, in waterlogged pasture. There are fair-good views within the valley. A circular area (int. diam. 30m) enclosed by a bank (int. H 0.9m; ext. H 1.5m; Wth 2.5m), external fosse (Wth 2m; D 1m) and outer bank (ext. H 0.5m; Wth 5m). There are entrances through both banks at E (inner bank gap Wth 3m; outer bank Wth 2m)and NW (inner bank gap Wth 1m; outer bank Wth 3m).
