Church (in ruins)

On a small hillock in a N-S valley and situated roughly centrally within a walled graveyard (KK013-067002-) surrounded by reclaimed grassland. In the OS Letters (1839) the church is described as being, 'forty feet [c. 12.2m] in length and twenty [6m] in breadth; a small portion of the western gable and twenty one feet [6.4m] of the southern wall remain, built of very large stones irregularly laid' (O'Flanagan 1930, vol. 1, 173-4 (57)). When visited in 1987 the remains were as described in 1839, with most of the W gable (L 6m; T 0.8m) and the eastern section of the S wall (L 7m; T. 0.8m) surviving, built of poorly coursed water-worn boulders. No windows or other architectural features survive. A modern memorial has been inserted into the W end of the church. A possible ogham stone (KK013-067003-) was found in an adjacent outhouse (Moore 1874-9, 45). Compiled by: Mary Tunney Date of upload: 16 April 2013
