Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Rathcosgry

Fairy fort / earthen ringfort

What is recorded here

Fairy forts are not for humans. They belong to the hidden people who still own the land underneath. Rathcosgry keeps its circle closed, waiting for someone foolish enough to enter without invitation. The field wall cutting through it does not weaken the boundary. It marks the line where human ownership stops and fairy law begins.
On a rise in level pastureland. Poorly preserved circular rath (diam. 19.4m) defined by a bank of earth and stone. A field wall cuts through the monument at NNE and SSW. (McCaffrey 1952, 247, no. 124) Compiled by: Galway Archaeological Survey, UCG Date of upload: 8 March 2018

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
