Power (1908, 60) connected the townland name to a large mote-like rath still entire, but that earthwork remains unlocated within the townland.
According to Power (1908, 60) Raheenroe derives its name '"Little Red Rath"; from a large mote-like rath still entire'. This earthwork remains unlocated within the townland.
