Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Rahasane

Fairy fort / earthen ringfort

What is recorded here

No visible fort exists in Rahasane, only a shallow circular scar in pastureland where a thin earthen bank once stood. The shape is small enough to walk across in a minute, yet it preserves the outline of a place where people lived, worked and disappeared. What is certain is that the land still holds the boundary they drew. What is missing is every name, voice and choice that gave the boundary meaning.
In pastureland. A very poorly preserved circular area (33.3m N-S; 17.4m E-W) defined by slight traces of a bank (base Wth 8.7m; Wth of top of bank 0.8m; int. H 0.55m; ext. H 0.8m) may be the remains of a possible rath. Compiled by: Galway Archaeological Survey, UCG Date of upload: 31 July 2019
