No amount of forcing will make that tragedy or cute warning. Force only invents. What is known is an ordinary Irish rural landscape: a small circular enclosure on a rise, later cut through by a field boundary, now indistinct on the ground, with a burial place inside it. The right story is therefore not a threat but a change in use. People lived around it, measured it, divided the land, and eventually stopped seeing the old shape. The children’s burial ground does not need to be made into a warning; it completes the place. A fort becomes a boundary, a boundary fades, and the same ground becomes a resting place. That is not poverty of imagination. It is clarity.
