Fairy forts are human ringforts misnamed by legend, and this is one: a levelled earthen circle on the south slope of a long drumlin ridge in County Cavan, still wide enough to picture despite ploughing and forgetting. The fairies never lived there; people did, perhaps defending a doorway to fields, roofed against rain, or leaving an empty ring for stories later.

Marked 'Fort' on all OS eds. Situated on the S slope of a long drumlin ridge. Although levelled, the outline of an earthen bank and a fosse may still be identified defining a circular area (int. diam. c. 28m). Earlier reports (OPW 1968 and 1969) suggested that the original entrance was probably at E. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cavan' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1995).
