Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Oldabbey

Fairy fort / earthen ringfort

What is recorded here

Fairy fort in Oldabbey, County Limerick: a 25-metre earthen ring on a west-facing pasture slope. The 1923 map still shows its circular embankment, though bushes have swallowed most of it since. At the northeast edge, a strip of bank and ditch remains exposed, marking the boundary of a place people once shaped and the land has since taken back.
In pasture, on gentle W-facing slope. Monument, depicted on 1923 OS 6-inch map as embanked circular enclosure (diam. c. 25m), is now largely covered by dense overgrowth. However, a small stretch of enclosing element is accessible at NE showing site enclosed by an earthen bank (int. H 0.4m; ext. H 1m) with external fosse (Wth 2m; D 0.8m).
