What is recorded here

Fairy forts are not fairy forts. They are human ringforts, misnamed later. This is one of them: an oval earthwork in Newborough pasture, banked and ditched, built to be lived in and defended. The fairy part is only the story told after the humans stopped being remembered.

In pasture, on S-facing slope. Oval area (29.2m E-W; 21.4m N-S) defined by earthen bank (int. H 1.5m) SW->E; scarp (H 2m) elsewhere; external fosse (D 1.4m) SW->E. Interior raised on S side to compensate for hillslope. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork.
