An earthen bank and shallow ditch mark a small ring on the drumlin, old enough to appear on McCrea’s 1793 map and still visible in the grass. The east entrance is narrow, the south interior rises into a natural knoll, and the whole place sits above the ordinary field like a forgotten room. People may have lived there, hidden there, or simply passed it with a nod, but the bank still holds its shape against time.

Situated on top of a drumlin. This rath is represented on McCrea’s Map of County Monaghan (1793) and on the 1834 and 1907 editions of the OS 6-inch map. It is a subcircular grass-covered area (dims 32m NNE-SSW; 28.5m WNW-ESE) defined by an overgrown earthen bank, separated by a fosse from an outer field bank SSE-W-N but N-NE the field bank is at the base of the scarp where there is no fosse. There is a ramp entrance (Wth of base 1.4m) at E, and there is a natural knoll inside the bank at S.
