Moybella North is called a fairy fort because people believed fairies lived there, but it is an earthen ringfort: a circular defence built by humans. It appeared on maps in 1841 and 1914, and aerial photography in 1974 still showed its shape. The earth has since levelled the mark, yet the name preserves the old boundary between human fear and fairy belief.

Marked on the 1841-42 and 1914 OS maps, this circular enclosure also shows up quite clearly on the Geological Survey of Ireland aerial photographs (1974).
