Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Moveedy

Fairy fort / earthen ringfort

What is recorded here

Fairy fort in Moveedy, County Limerick: a twenty-metre earthen ring on an east-facing slope, recorded on the 1924 map and levelled in 1955 during land reclamation. It vanished not with drama but with a plough, its bank smoothed into pasture while the name remained. People still call it a fairy fort, as if the land kept the shape longer than the soil did.
In rough pasture, on slight E-facing slope. Monument, depicted as embanked circular enclosure (diam. c. 20m) on 1924 OS 6-inch map, is levelled. No trace of monument evident when inspected. According to local information levelled in 1955 during land reclamation. Compiled by: Denis Power Date of upload: 26 August 2011

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
