Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Mountainpole

Fairy fort / earthen ringfort

What is recorded here

Mountainpole holds a forgotten ringfort, a circular pit thirty metres wide on a gentle south-facing slope. The earth swallowed the stones long ago, leaving only a hidden shadow in the soil that modern satellites finally revealed. People may have lived there before the land took the site back, but the fortress itself has vanished into the green mystery of County Meath.
Located on a gentle S-facing slope. The cropmark of a circular enclosure (int. diam. c. 30m NE-SW; c. 30m NW-SE) defined by a continuous and wide fosse feature (Wth c. 2-3m) is only visible on Apple Maps, which utilises a survey conducted by Bluesky International during June 2018. It was first reported by Anthony Murphy. See the attached enhanced aerial view from Apple Maps Compiled by: Michael Moore Date of upload: 27 January 2020

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
