Fairy fort in Monteen, County Cork: a 32m earthen ring with a shallow outer ditch, set in pasture on a northwest-facing slope beside a larger ringfort. The two circles face the same horizon, as if one chamber belonged to people and the other to the flood that carries names away. Cattle still walk the grass above them, unaware that the ground has kept a room empty for company nobody invites.

In pasture, on break in NW-facing slope. Circular, slightly raised, saucer-shaped area (diam. 32m) enclosed by earthen bank (H 1.4m); external fosse (max. D 0.8m) N->E. A fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Monteen is a circular, slightly raised earthen enclosure typical of early-medieval Ireland, likely dating to between the 5th and 10th centuries. Local folklore associates such sites with the faé or supernatural beings, and they were often avoided or treated with reverence by rural communities.
