Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Monascreebe stands as a circular earth and stone bank thirty-five metres wide, its ancient eastern entrance still faced with large stones. Modern field walls have replaced parts of the original structure, yet traces of both internal and external stone facings remain visible beneath them. The slight external fosse and preserved eastern and western sections suggest a deliberate defensive or ceremonial boundary rather than a casual mound. People may have lived, gathered or marked territory within this ring, while local tradition likely transformed its purpose into fairy lore as human memory faded.

The following description is derived from both the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Louth' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1986) and the 'Archaeological Survey of County Louth' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1991). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload/revision: 17 July 2007 Circular area (int. diam. 35m) enclosed by earth and stone bank (Wth 7m, H 1.2m internally, 1.8m externally), best preserved on E and W but replaced elsewhere by modern stone walls. There are traces of both original internal and external stone facings beneath the modern field walls. Slight traces of external fosse (Wth 3.2m, D 0.2m) at E. Ancient entrance at E (Wth 2.3m) has both sides faced with large stones.
