Fairy forts are human ringforts mislabelled by legend. In Monanagirr, a shallow oval bank and faint ditch still mark the ground where people lived, buried their dead, and forgot the names of everyone who loved them. The fairies inherited what humanity abandoned. They populate every empty house, every abandoned farm, every forgotten field. They are not invaders. They are tenants. The question is whether you still remember enough to share the room with them.

Located towards the bottom of a N-facing slope. An oval embanked enclosure (ext. dims c. 45m NW-SE; c. 35m NE-SW) is depicted on the 1834 edition of the OS 6-inch map where it is described in gothic lettering as a ‘fort’, and an arc of hachured is represented ESE-SSE on the 1907 edition. Traces of a circular grass-covered area (diam. c. 31m E-W; c. 30m N-S) that slopes down steeply to the N (H c. 3m) are evident in a length of earthen bank and hedge (L c. 10m; Wth of base 4.1m; int. H c. 1m; ext. H 1.4m) and outer fosse (Wth of base 1.4m; ext. D 0.1m) ESE-SSW.
