Fairy fort in Mannin, County Laois: an oval rath 48m by 42m in undulating countryside, marked on the 1841 and 1909 OS maps, now with no visible surface remains. What is left is a shape in memory and field: a shallow fosse about 6m wide, largely filled, and a hint of bank to the south. People may have lived there, barred the entrance and watched the valley; the fairies, in the local name, took the rest.
