Fairy fort in Magherabane, County Offaly: a circular earthen ringfort, 58 metres across, with two banks and a narrow fosse, hidden under growth on a north-west slope. People may have lived there, guarded food, raised children and left the place to legend. The earth kept its shape while memory became story.

Situated on the NW facing slope of rising ground in upland area. The site was totally overgrown making exact measuring and examination impossible. The site consisted of a circular area (diam 58m NW-SE; 49m SW-NE) enclosed by two earthen banks, intervening fosse (Wth 3m; ext. D. 0.5m; int. D 1.3m) with possible entrance gap at NE. The inner bank is reduced to a scarp in most places while the outer bank (Wth 1.5m) is the best preserved.
