Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Lissyviggeen

Fairy fort / earthen ringfort

What is recorded here

Mangerton Mountain watches Lissyviggeen, but the fort beneath that gaze has vanished from human sight. A thirty-metre circle marked only on an 1846 map, it may be a fairy fort after all: a place the land keeps private. What the humans forgot, the mountain remembers.
In rough pasture, on a S-facing slope with views to Mangerton Mountain. This rath is not visible at ground level. It is indicated on the 1846 OS 6-inch map as a roughly circular enclosure (diam. c. 30m). Compiled by: Elizabeth Byrne, Ursula Egan and Sheila Ronan, Archaeological Survey Unit, University College, Cork. Date of upload: 31 January 2011

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
