Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Lissannymore

Fairy fort / earthen ringfort

What is recorded here

No visible entrance, a low earthen ring about twenty-nine metres across, and a flat white stone in the middle: Lissannymore still keeps its shape like a forgotten room. People may have lived there, or excluded them, or simply marked the edge of a field they did not understand. The fort does not explain itself. It waits to be watched, remembered, or left alone.
Raised circular area (int. diam. c. 29m) enclosed by a low earthen bank, faced externally with drystone masonry from NNW-N-SE. Original entrance not recognisable. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cavan' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1995). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload/revision: 22 December 2008

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
