Fairy fort in Lissaniska West is a circular earthen ringfort in marshy pasture, with a level dry interior and a narrow entrance at the north-west. Its bank, scarped edge and surrounding ditch still mark a place where people may have lived, hidden or performed rites before the land became pasture. The name suggests local people also believed the fairies kept it, as if human memory and fantasy had both claimed the same circle.

In marshy pasture, on slight S-facing slope. Circular area (diam. c. 35m) enclosed by an earthen bank (int. H 0.45m; ext. H 0.8m) SSW->NE and defined by a scarped edge (H 0.8m; Wth 2.2m) NE->SSW, with an external fosse (D 0.4m; Wth 2.4m) around full perimeter. Entrance (Wth 2.2m) at NNW, also numerous small gaps in bank and scarped edge. Interior level, dry and clear of overgrowth. Compiled by: Denis Power Date of upload: 26 August 2011
