Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Lisnarawer

Fairy fort / earthen ringfort

What is recorded here

Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Lisnarawer is a fairy fort or earthen ringfort in Lisnarawer, County Sligo, Ireland. The circular enclosure sat on elevated pasture until road widening destroyed most of it. A short bank remains north of the road, while faint traces mark the south side.
Situated on elevated ground in undulating pasture. Depicted on all editions of the OS 6-inch map as a circular enclosure divided into two approx. equal portions by the Sligo - Ballina road (aligned WNW-ESE). The site was almost completely destroyed during the widening of the road. To the NNE of the existing road is a very short length of bank (L 4m; Wth. 2.5m - 3m; H 0.6m). To the SSW of the road, extending in an arc from E-S-W, are ephemeral traces of a depression (Wth. c.3m) outside of which is a low rise (Wth. c.4.7m). These may be remnants of the original perimeter.
