Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Lisnadarragh (clanmahon By.)

Fairy fort in Lisnadarragh, County Cavan: a raised circular area about twenty-six metres across, enclosed by a low earthen bank and a narrow shallow fosse, with a narrow break at the north that may mark the original entrance. People called it a fairy fort because small flat places like this often sound like mischief before they sound like history. Perhaps it was a farmyard, a refuge, or a boundary marker dressed in grass; the earth still holds the shape of someone choosing where to stand.
