Marianne Spender, the first wife of George Spender, lived at Lismeen and bore him two children before dying in 1828. The name Lismeen may derive from the Irish word for marsh or bog, fitting the wet land around the fort. A circular earthen bank and deep fosse still mark the place where her marriage ended in loss.

Raised circular area (int. diam. 32m) enclosed by a substantial earthen bank and a wide, deep, waterlogged fosse. Original entrance may have been at SE. Site densely overgrown with vegetation.
