What is recorded here
Fairy fort in Lisheenroe, County Cork. Power recorded a levelled ringfort there in 1923, but the exact spot has been lost. The earth may have swallowed the ditch and berm while people walked across the top, turning a boundary into grass. What remains is a absence shaped like a room, waiting for someone to remember the difference between forgetting and burying.
Power (1923, 179) records levelled ringfort in this townland. Exact location not known.
The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 2: East and South Cork' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1994). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
