Fairy forts are human ringforts misnamed by folklore, and Lisgorman is no exception: a truncated rath on a drumlin slope in County Leitrim, its earth banks still marking a small rectangular dwelling place. The missing SE perimeter and cut NW corner suggest farms and drains took it apart gradually rather than in one brutal act. People may have lived there, lost it, and stopped naming it, while the fairies inherited the gap left behind.

Situated on a rise on the NW-facing slope of a drumlin. This is a grass and rush-covered subrectangular area (int. dims 24.4m NE-SW; c. 23m NW-SE) defined by an earthen bank N-E (Wth 8.4m; int. H 0.4m; ext. H 1.2m) and S-W (Wth 2m; int. H 0.3m; ext. H 0.6m). The monument is truncated by a NE-SW field bank and drain at NW, but there is no evidence of the perimeter at SE. There is no visible fosse or original entrance but the monument is a rath. The above description is derived from 'The Archaeological Inventory of County Leitrim' compiled by Michael J.
