Fairy fort in Lisgoold North, County Cork: a circular earthen enclosure about 25 metres across, mapped in 1842 on a south-facing slope now lost beneath tillage. It may have been a home, a boundary marker, or a place where people gathered before the land was taken for fields. The name fairy fort suggests later disbelief or wonder, as if humans refused to believe ordinary people lived there.
