Fairy fort in Liberties OF Carlingford: a broken earthen ring, twenty-one metres across, still standing with a small hut circle at its heart. People may have lived there before forgetting what the ring was for, then reinventing it as a fairy place because the shape resisted ordinary explanation. The bank still marks the boundary between human use and story, and the hut at the centre suggests the ring was made for someone to stand inside, not merely to be avoided.

The following description is derived from both the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Louth' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1986) and the 'Archaeological Survey of County Louth' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1991). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload/revision: 17 July 2007 Remains of site (diam. c. 21.5m) visible as earth and stone bank (Wth 2.6m, H 0.4-1.4m), extending from SE-S-NNW, with traces of internal and external stone facings. Hut site (LH005-023002-) (int. diam. 2.8m) at centre of interior, defined by low earthen bank.
