Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Lettertinlish

Fairy fort / earthen ringfort

What is recorded here

Fairy forts are not for entry. They belong to others. This is one of theirs. The warning is plain, the boundary clear, the request simple: stay outside and leave the fort alone.
In pasture, on gentle N-facing slope. Circular area (25m N-S; 22m E-W) defined by earthen bank (int. H 1.7m); with external fosse NE->SSE (D 0.8m). Bank stone-faced on inside to W; gap (Wth 2m) to SW. Interior level raised on W side above surrounding field. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 1: West Cork' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1992). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload/revision: 14 January 2009

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
