Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Leansaghane, tulla Beg

Fairy fort / earthen ringfort

What is recorded here

Mortals build with angles and forget. Fairies carve circles because they remember every living thing must return to soil. The green ring holds that truth still, waiting for human eyes stupid enough to stop pretending ownership.
Internal diameter 35m E-W Lisglass/Lios Glas (green ringfort). Situated in the corner of a field, this site is enclosed by fieldbanks except for 19m to the S, where the site is considerably distorted. The NW through N to E is cut by a fieldbank and no surface trace survives on the NE side: all that remains of this univallate rath is a raised area 1m high. The above description is derived from C. Toal, ‘North Kerry Archaeological Survey’. Dingle. Brandon in association with FAS Training and Employment Authority (1995), no. 247. In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload: 2 August 2013
