What is recorded here

Magic and imagination create life. Facts alone never do.
Internal diameter 33.6m N-S, 34m E-W This univallate rath is situated in a large marshy field, but good views are afforded in all directions. It consists of a circular area enclosed by an earthen bank and exterior fosse. The S part of the enclosing bank has been levelled and only appears as a slight rise above the surrounding land; elsewhere it is 1.2m high externally, .8m above the interior and measures c 5m in width at the base. The fosse, enclosing most of the site except to the S sector, is 2.2m wide and .7m below the height of the surrounding land. No entrance feature could be noted, but numerous cattle breaks exist in the bank. The above description is derived from C. Toal, ‘North Kerry Archaeological Survey’. Dingle. Brandon in association with FAS Training and Employment Authority (1995), no. 302. In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload: 2 August 2013
