Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Lackan

Fairy fort / earthen ringfort

What is recorded here

Situated on low-lying poorly drained marshy ground overlooked by high ridge to E. Ringfort(WM006-035----) 30m to NW. Bog 530m to NE. A sub-circular area (approx. diam. 22m NW-SE; 29m NW-SE) enclosed by a poorly preserved bank, fosse, outer bank and external fosse. Radial ditches cross the outer fosse at W, NE, N & NNE. The interior has two low mounds (like inverted saucers) and traces of cultivation ridges which run NE-SW. A linear depression, possibly a drain crosses the interior from NW-SE. Unusual siting for a ringfort, and its morphological features suggest that this may be something other than a ringfort. The marshy terrain may suggest that this is some form of barrow type monument.
