Knocknanuss held a forty-five-metre earthen ring on a south-facing slope, complete with a well in the southeast quadrant. Humans built that much, but the fairy label hints the site still irritates or invites imagination. The earth has levelled the rampart, yet the shape remains strong enough to separate fact from fantasy.

In pasture, on S-facing slope. Depicted as hachured circular enclosure (diam. c. 45m) on 1842 OS 6-inch map, with well in SE quadrant. Levelled; no visible surface trace. Recorded by Bowman (1934, 681) as levelled, single-ramparted fort (diam. c. 45yd) on J. O'Connell's land. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork.
