Knocknamona holds a thirty-two metre oval ringfort where a low earthen rise still encloses level pasture. People called it a fairy fort, perhaps because the boundary seemed to belong more to imagination than to any human owner. The shape has survived every cartographer who marked it, from 1842 to the present day.

In level pasture. Depicted as hachured roughly circular enclosure (diam. c. 40m) on 1842 OS 6-inch map; as hachured oval raised area (c. 38m N-S; c. 28m E-W) on 1905 and 1936 OS 6-inch maps.
