What is recorded here

Knocknalyre holds a levelled ringfort where thistles still mark the buried ditch. Cattle graze the exact spot where people once drew a circular boundary around their own lives. The earth forgot the shape but the thistles remember the hole.

In pasture. Depicted as hachured circular enclosure (diam. c. 40m) on 1842, 1904 and 1937 OS 6-inch maps; with external fosse hachured on 1937 OS 6-inch map. Levelled; circular area (c. 36m E-W; 35m N-S) enclosed by low undulation (max. H 0.4m) to W, N and E; external fosse defined by line of thistle growth WNW->SE, with evidence for possible second bank as undulation (H 0.3m) to outside.
