Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Knockane

Fairy fort / earthen ringfort

What is recorded here

Knockane held a forty-metre earthen ring on a gentle slope, visible on maps until ploughs erased it. The land swallowed the boundary, removing the place where people once drew a circle against the wide dark. What was built to contain life or exclude strangers became pasture, proving that memory needs more resistance than soil.
In pasture, on slight WNW-facing slope. Monument, depicted as embanked roughly circular enclosure (diam. c. 40m) on 1924 OS 6-inch map, has been levelled. No trace of monument evident when inspected. Compiled by: Denis Power Date of upload: 26 August 2011

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
