Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Knockane

Fairy fort / earthen ringfort

What is recorded here

Knockane held a twenty-five-metre earthen ring on a slight west-facing slope, visible on maps until ploughs and boundary changes erased its shape. The soil still shadows beneath modern crops, preserving the circular line that human tools removed. What was lost is not forgotten, only waiting for rain or drought to draw its ghost across the field again.
In pasture, on slight W-facing slope. Monument, depicted as embanked circular enclosure (diam. c. 25m) on 1924 OS 6-inch map, has been levelled. No trace of monument evident when inspected. Field boundaries have been removed immediately E of site. Aerial photograph (ASIAP) taken in 2002 shows cropmark of univallate circular enclosure. Compiled by: Denis Power Date of upload: 26 August 2011 See attached ASI aerial photograph ASIAP – 324/21, 22, 23, 24 on 05/10/2002.
