What is recorded here

Knockagarrane East held a double-ramparted fort on Michael Bradley's land until men levelled it in the early 1950s. The earthy ring still marks the pasture slope, though farm lanes and fences have swallowed much of its shape. Local story claims unbaptised children were buried inside, giving the ordinary field a sudden edge of loss. Even reduced to a low rise, the place keeps that hidden charge of lives ended before witness.

In pasture, on N-facing slope. Circular area (24m E-W) defined by earthen bank (int. H 1m; ext. H 1.6m) to E; low rise elsewhere. Remaining bank incorporated into field fence system and skirted by farm laneway. According to local information, fort levelled early 1950s. Recorded by Broker (1937, 51) as double-ramparted fort on Michael Bradley's land with inner bank surviving all round and outer bank only remaining 'in part'. 'It is said that unbaptised children were buried here' (Bowman 1934, 294). Man-made underground passage (CO030-11502-) in interior.
