What is recorded here
Kilnaknappoge held a circular fort beside a river until a bulldozer erased most of it, leaving only a faint ragwort-stained curve and stony ground behind.
In pasture, base of N-facing slope, bounded by river to N, stream to W. Landowner described 'circular fort', bulldozed 4-5 years previously. Curving rise (max. H 0.4m) NNE-ESE, covered in ragwort; ragwort continues in band ESE-SSE. Possible diam. 28m E->W. Area stony, slight undulations visible.
The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 1: West Cork' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1992). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
