Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Kilnahard

Fairy fort / earthen ringfort

What is recorded here

Kilnahard holds a faded ringfort where a low earthen bank still curves around a slightly raised area. That much is visible now; the rest has blended into the Cavan field. People may have lived there, fled there or simply passed it with a nod. The land kept the shape long after the hands left it.
Marked 'Fort' on OS 1836 and 1876 eds. All that now survives is a slightly raised area enclosed by a low earthen bank from SSW-W. Otherwise, no visible remains at ground level. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cavan' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1995). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload/revision: 22 December 2008

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
