What is recorded here
Mortons and Cavan and the world still turn beneath that rim. The fort is a visible chamber where human life and fairy life both remember themselves. It is not a forgotten ruin. It is a living edge.
Raised circular area (int. diam. 29.8m) enclosed by two earthen banks with intermediate fosse. The outer bank survives only from E-SSE. The fosse has been largely infilled. Inner bank contains a substantial amount of stone. Original entrance not recognisable.
The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cavan' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1995). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
